You Are Responsible for You

11 juli 2018

You are responsible for you. For your actions, for your reactions, for the impact you have on others.

Most of you are probably nodding your heads, thinking, yeah, duh...

But have you ever noticed how often we - unconsciously - put the responsibility for us with someone else?

‘They should have told me I was too direct’

‘If they don’t like it, that’s their problem'

'Isn't it normal, that this makes me angry?'

We tend to normalize our own behavior - even when we know that we are more emotional, explosive or perfectionist than others. And then we expect others to make it normal for us. To not judge us, to not be upset with us, to make it all right.

It’s ok to ask others to help you. To give you feedback about your blind spots. To catch you when you go in overdrive.

But they are not responsible.

You are responsible for you - always.

Funny thing is we do the opposite as well: we make ourselves responsible for others.

'I wouldn't do that if I were him'

'I just want them to be happy'

'Let me do this'

They are responsible for them - always.

That doens't mean that we cannot help each other, look out for each other, support each other. As long as we are clear with ourselves and each other: I am responsible for me. You are responsible for you.
